Last year my husband and I bought his family homestead in the country in northern Ontario, and now we’re enjoying the often hilarious adventure of learning to manage the farmhouse and ten acres we now call home.

Though genealogical lists can seem boring in the Bible, there are interesting gems throughout them if you give yourself enough time to think about it.

My eyes grew wide when I got to the cash register and realized that I had gone $100.00 over budget! I could have blamed the higher prices of everything due to inflation. I tried to justify that we needed everything that I bought. Most of that was true, but truth be told, the culprit was me. I let the sales suck me in.

Though this is a short chapter, it is loaded with God’s character and action. What a testimony of His grace as the first round of exiles are called home.

Are you finding it harder to spend time with friends who have children? You try to find other topics to talk about, but the conversation always seems to lead back their kids. It gets overwhelming to listen to. How can I ask you to respect parents when you’re frustrated that they don’t seem to respect you and what you’re going through?

When there was something important the Lord wanted His followers to hear in the Bible, He would repeat the word two to three times to draw attention to it. He continues to do this in our present lives as well. This message of redeeming grace continues to come up in my daily reading, in testimonies I’m listening to, and in my own life’s circumstances.

Everyone goes through hard times. When life kicks us around it’s easy to get stuck in our comforts and excuses, fearing anything worse to happen. Jamie had fractured his ankle which led to a pulminary embolism that almost took his life. With a long recovery ahead of him, and plenty of time to sit and think, Jamie faced the reality of where his life was headed. What would he do?

He gave me one hint about a month before we left – It was something on my bucket list from a few years ago. He wasn’t sure if I was still interested in doing it, but thought we’d try. I knew based on a couple of things that it had to be something within driving distance. There were two things that came to mind by that radius of options – a concert or the Highland Games. My guess was the games. I mentioned it to him, but thankfully Michael isn’t one to crack, so he didn’t confirm if it was or not.
