Saying “No” to God

Being a grade 3 teacher is a humbling experience. Yes, it’s a joy. Yes, it’s a privilege. But, boy is it edifying! If you’re a parent, a grandparent, an aunt, an uncle, a Sunday school teacher, or if you’ve ever just been around kids, you might know what I’m talking about. Kids have a special way of pushing us to our limits and causing us to see our own shortcomings.

Hard Lessons to Learn

It was a sunny Saturday afternoon at the end of June. I stood in the kitchen, chopping carrots to add to the dinner. As I quartered the carrot slices and put them in the pot of boiling water, my husband and our 4 children came home from an afternoon walk. Bethany, our eldest aged 6 at the time, got in first and burst through the door. Seeing me beside the worktop, she said with a tear stained face and a wobble in her voice: “Mummy, I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that I lost Owly and the good news is that I found 10p!”

Who’s Fighting for You?

Have you ever been in a season where the Lord keeps bringing back the same scripture? You could be in the supermarket and the kids are having a moment, having a bad day at work, or in the middle of a trial and God will just bring the scripture back to remembrance. It can make you giggle, give you comfort, and can also be a little convicting. That is what is happening to me in the season I am in. And as I navigate this season, I feel compelled to share in the hope to encourage. Because if he can fight continually for me then he can do the same for you. He shows no partiality.

Finding Freedom in Friendship

It was over lunch. My friend and colleague calmly pointed out “I don’t maintain relationships with anyone I can’t go deep with. I’m not interested in talking about fashion, the latest movies, or reality TV shows. I want friends with whom I can share the real stuff that’s going on inside – friends I can be transparent with.”
