Are you the “numbers” person in your family? You enjoy math so doing the budget each month is fun for you. It’s easier for you to manage it, so you take that responsibility, to help your spouse who finds it stressful. Or, perhaps you’re the spender of the family? You enjoy shopping a little too much, so doing a budget is frustrating for you. It’s easier to let your spouse take care of it and ask him/her to give you a limit on what you can spend each month? You’ve sinned and the weight of it feels heavy. Shame tells you to turn away from God. You’ve gone too far. Or, it says that you need to try harder; to perform more for Christ in order to win His approval. Shame breeds shame. The more you try to perform for Jesus, the harder you push, the more you’ll see how you fall short. But shame tells you to keep going. That’s all you think you can do. But is that right? Ah! The freshness of spring. The birds are beginning to return and the morning is filled with the sounds of their chirping. Bunnies are popping up everywhere along with the spring flowers. The grass is turning green and the trees are budding. Life is returning after the dreary cold.

Since the beginning of the year, we’ve gotten to know Jesus on a more personal level. I chose to do the I AM’s study of Jesus at this time for a specific reason. I wanted to get our minds prepared for Easter – when we celebrate our victorious King.

Life for church planters is difficult. It’s lonely, selfless, and just plain hard. Home offers a place of security and rest. But what happens when suffering enters your home too? How do you find beauty out of brokenness? How do you wrestle through the pain with Christ?

Though this I AM is not part of the book of John, it is powerfully woven throughout Scripture, declaring God’s supremacy and intimacy to His people.
