Living Water – Part 2

My parched soul tapped into the “Living Water”. I began to crave my time with the Lord each morning. I could feel it if I missed a day. My day wouldn’t flow well, I would be crankier and more self-focused, less loving.

The thing is, the more you’re in His word, the more exciting it becomes. As I began my study on the Holy Spirit, Genesis 1:2 captured my attention, “Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness covered the surface of the watery depths, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.” Can you imagine this moment…The Spirit in all its power is hovering over this great expanse of water? Is the water rippling, creating great waves, or is it still? If the Lord sang, would the water dance to the sounds He made? As a painter looks at a blank canvas and can envision what the end product will look like, I wonder if God was envisioning all of creation as He peered into the depths of the water.

Things began to stand out to me that never did before… Is there something about water that is greater than this world? Like in Isaiah 55 when it says, “come to the waters”, did He mean something more than a body of water on earth?

Jesus answered, “If you knew the gift of God, and who is saying to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would ask Him, and He would give you living water.”

“Sir,” said the woman, “You don’t even have a bucket, and the well is deep. So where do You get this ‘living water’?  You aren’t greater than our father Jacob, are You? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and livestock.”

Jesus said, “Everyone who drinks from this water will get thirsty again. But whoever drinks from the water that I will give him will never get thirsty again—ever! In fact, the water I will give him will become a well of water springing up within him for eternal life.” John 4:10-14

Another time Jesus talked about living water again…

On the last and most important day of the festival, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone is thirsty, he should come to Me and drink! The one who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, will have streams of living water flow from deep within him.” He said this about the Spirit…” – John 7:37-39

The Spirit is the living water! We are allowed to connect with this Amazing God, to have this Living Water within us, allowing us to be nourished in Him by the Spirit; to be strengthened in all circumstances, and to never feel quenched again from the Most High God. All we have to do is tap into it.

Revelation 22:17 states, ‘Both the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” Anyone who hears should say, “Come!” And the one who is thirsty should come. Whoever desires should take the living water as a gift.”

I pray that you make the choice to ask God to soften your heart and prepare you to be in His word each day with Him. It is what will strengthen and nourish you most in this life. It is what will equip and empower you to do what God wants you to do, and to feel satisfied in the relationship you can have with Him. Let the Holy Spirit work out His Word in you, and equip you with hope through your hard times.

Now, I know this can be hard to do on your own, so I have created a challenge for you. I am going to be sharing what I am learning each day for the rest of the month of February (except Sundays) on Instagram. I would enjoy hearing what you’re learning as well. Let’s build a community of accountability as we share together.
